Many of these rates (before taxes, might I add) haven’t changed in 20 years. $100-$250 in 1994 aint the same as in 2014. This is why Comic Book Conventions for many comic illustrators, in many cases, are the lifeblood of their comic making (commissions, direct fan interaction books sales).

Days after Michael Brown’s death, Ferguson looks like a war zone

A vigil held for Michael Brown, an unarmed black teenager gunned down by Ferguson, Mo., police on Saturday in disputed circumstances, turned into what the media described as a riot on Monday evening.

But while national coverage has focused on the indisputably counterproductive violence and destruction committed by Ferguson residents during a moment of anguish, videos and photos taken from the scene show local police aggravating the situation as well.

Years of tension have reached a boiling point

Does this look like serving and or protecting to you?

I know some cops who are good people. But its not enough to be a good person when you are a tool of the system. The system serves a very specific minority, while terrorizing a different minority, and keeping the bulk of us in check through an almost unconscious fear of punishment.

Very recently a black man was choked to death by officers of the NYPD not very far from where I live. Now this. Just the two most recent examples of how completely fucked up our police forces are.

I’m sure someone will say that antagonistic and unprofessional behavior is rare. An anomaly. And anyone who feels the need to criticize law enforcement is being unjustly hostile to people who do, occasionally, put their lives at risk.

But even the most cursory study of the labor movement, or the civil rights movement, or the anti-war movement, or the Occupy movement, or any other group that ever rocked the boat because they were sick and tired of the injustice of their situations will put the lie to that.
